Stephanie Mathews was born in 1988 in Goldsboro, NC to an Air Force family and as a result has lived all around the world. The Air Force moved her family to Little Rock Air Force Base (Jacksonville) because of the proximity of medical services available nearby for her care.
Stephanie is 32 years old and has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Developmental Delay, and Mental Retardation. She has limited use of her right arm/hand and right leg, although she is fully mobile. She attends Pathfinder Vocational Workshop for the Developmentally Delayed in Jacksonville to work on daily living skills to help make her independent in the local community.
Stephanie has had a love for animals all her life, but 12 years ago she found horseback riding. She has blossomed and shown her true ability and independence on her horse. It has improved her balance, patience, and ability to follow directions.
When Stephanie is on the horse, you see her smile and can see the pride in herself. With COVID-19, riding is the only therapy Stephanie receives.
